Jack Zhao

Born in Toledo, Ohio, I've always heard the saying: "You'll do better in Toledo." And in some cases, that's very true. After experiencing the momentum of different cities there's a quiet vibe coming back home. And as someone who's mind scatters with though at times, Toledo's simplicity clears it. This dichotomy is worked into my own designs; my observations and meditations on different subjects and the organized chaos that follows- What's your muse?

Definition

Verb

"To have deep thoughts or to meditate on a subject."

An example of muse is someone thinking about what their life may look like in the future.

Lightbulb

Found surrounding the "e" in muse, the lightbulb represents comprehension, breakthroughs, and awareness. Therefore, the brand was created in order to guide people on their journeys to a deeper understanding of themselves and an ever-changing humanity.

The brand also has heavy influences from designers such as Daniel Patrick, Virgil Abloh, and John Eliot. With it's bold coloring, heavy icon placement, loud typography, and other unique features, it challenges the norms of regular design and therefore promotes a more disruptive one. In short, this method, or "the disruptive design method," is utilized by going into the foundations or intents of certain interventions and getting a systematic understanding of what’s being depicted. An individual is therefore able to disrupt the status quo of an issue and create an effective change in society.
